The Month April (Tapestry)

The tapestry shows a garden with staffage. In the foreground, on the right edge of the picture, there is a table with two planters. In the middle ground of the picture, a gardener in blue robes is depicted on the left with a gesture of guidance. He is facing a couple in elegant clothes to his right. Behind them a girl with a jug can be seen. Behind them is a bordered flower bed. In the background, a castle can be seen in the left half of the picture, on the right an ancient ruin with columned architecture. The tapestry is framed by a border with floral ornaments.

The object is signed "E. Leyniers" on the lower right and bears the Brussels city mark "BB", but is not dated. It is assumed that it was made in Brussels in the middle of the 17th century.
