Provenance
The sculpture was acquired together with other works of art in the Italian art trade. The provenance of the sculpture was established by investigations carried out by the former Trusteeship Administration for Cultural Property in Munich, which revealed that it was acquired for the German Reich on 7 November 1941 by Prince Philipp von Hessen, then Chief President of the Province of Hesse-Nassau, in the Italian art trade. The sculpture was purchased in Rome from Simotti Rocchi for 120,000.00 lire for Adolf Hitler's ‘Sonderauftrag Linz’.
