Description
The federally owned work is a pedestal in the shape of a coat of arms cartouche, on which lies horizontally a small devil with outstretched legs, whose arms are missing. The comparatively large plinth serves to elevate the reclining figure. The plinth was probably made in the 20th century in the Baroque style. It was subsequently painted. While this work is of inferior quality, the figure of the devil is more interestingly executed. The pedestal and figure were obviously joined together, although they did not originally belong together. Due to the poorly differentiated workmanship, it is not a unique piece, but was produced in series.
Provenance
In addition to the relevant information on the item, the TVK only noted the Munich number on the property card and ‘HZA Mü’ (Munich Main Customs Office) in the location field. Further information on the provenance is missing.
There is a white sticker with a blue border on the hollow base of the object itself, on which "KKü" and "1042 P" are noted. The letter P stands for the inventory for the German Castle in Poznan. It has not been possible to determine whether the object ever ended up there.
