Description

Shape:

Footless, oval pots, so-called ginger jars, with horizontal shoulder and short neck; flat cover without knob.

Décor:

Four ogival white fields on light-green ground, painted in famille verte style; the left cartouche shows a bizarrely shaped, stylised rock, surrounded by gnarled branches bearing magnificent flowers; the rock probably bears a nest-like structure on which a bird sits, a similar one looks down on the nest from a high branch; on the right cartouche: a bizarre stylized rock surrounded by gnarled branches with splendid flowers, on the rock probably a nest-like structure on which a bird with splendid plumage is sitting, from a high branch a similar bird looks down to the nest; the cover probably shows two fan-shaped famile verte style fields.

Manufacturer's mark: underglaze blue AR monogram

Comment:

lost: vase, on the left

Provenance
Dresden Castle, tower room; the collection of porcelain, together with the carpets, furnishings from the porcelain gallery and scientific material (10 boxes), was relocated to 16 different locations in a total of 1211 boxes. The relocation sites, some of which were castles and manor houses, served as refugee accommodation after 1945. As part of the collection was later offered for sale by private individuals or found in private estates, it is assumed that some of the losses were due to looting and destruction. According to the loss report for the porcelain collection from 1991, a partial transport to the Soviet Union cannot be ruled out.
