Provenance
The Städtische Galerie Stuttgart purchased the sheet in 1937 from the antiquarian book and art dealer Adolf Rein as part of a bundle of 34 graphic sheets and two paintings. It is possible that the bundle was a collection. Among other things, the late date of the acquisition in the "Third Reich" raises the suspicion of a Nazi persecution-related seizure of the works of art, as does the fact that there is no information about their provenance. Almost nothing is known about the book and art shop owner Adolf Rein.
