The Städtische Galerie Stuttgart acquired the painting in 1950 from the Hartmann art dealership and auction house in Stuttgart. The previous provenance of the painting is unknown. Paul Hartmann, who ran the art dealership during the Nazi era, is one of the art dealers implicated in National Socialism.
