Description
In the stone designated "J. Thiel 12" on the lower left, "Naples" on the lower right. In pencil inscribed "J. Thiel" at the bottom right pencil note "5.1-20, op. 19 Italienische Skizze III" at the lower left margin of the front page. Under passepartout typewritten with the title of the work on the left and the artist's name on the right. On the inside of the passepartout, coded price notes of an art dealer written in pencil.
Provenance
transferred in September 1943 by the OFP Hessen in Darmstadt to the Painting Gallery and the Museum of Antiquities of the City of Mainz, tax office identification number: M. St. 88/851. Probably confiscated by the Mainz tax office in September 1942 after the deportation of the owners. The identity of the owner (presumably a Mainz collector specializing in prints of the Berlin Secession and the 1920s) has not yet been clarified.
