Description
Portrait of a young man with a mischievous smile in a shiny, dark, armour with trimmings given in strong yellow against a dark background; the head turned slightly to the right side of the picture, the gaze of the blue eyes directed directly towards the viewer; the sitter wears a black allonge wig; looking out of the armour a white-grey scarf tied around the neck; oval or in an oval-covering frame shape.
Provenance
Old family property; before 1942 Wolfsburg Castle (until 1932 Gardelegen County, Province of Saxony; then Gifhorn County, Province of Hanover; today City of Wolfsburg) in the porcelain chamber; then moved to the newly built Neumühle Castle near Tangeln, municipality of Beetzendorf in the Altmark County of Salzwedel; left behind in 1945 during the flight from Neumühle Castle before it was taken over by the Red Army; Neumühle Castle was assigned to the Soviet occupation zone and expropriated; whereabouts unknown
