Description
Large two-door writing cabinet with wooden clock top, walnut veneer and bronze fittings. The door panels have mirror panels. The top section contains 17 drawers. The base of the writing cabinet is fitted with four drawers, a desk top and a single shelf. The enamelled clock dial bears the inscription ‘GILLE LAINE A PARIS’.
Provenance
The writing cabinet came from the palace of Count von Brühl to the Dresden Castle in 1825. In the inventory no. 1 of 31.01.1920 from 1920 it is listed in the "Fremdenquar. No. 2 am Bärengarten. Vorzimmer". According to the settlement agreement of 1924, ownership of the writing cabinet was transferred to the Free State of Saxony. The 1942 inventory list mentions 4 mirror cabinets. In August 1943, the most valuable furniture and clocks were transported to a relocation site (Rammenau or Schieritz). A loss in connection with the events of the Second World War is assumed.
