Description
Baroque plaque with eyelet, depicting a vase on a potter's wheel, with the year ‘1769’. Inscription around the edge: ‘DIESES FEREHRE ICH / AN EIN HOCHLÖBLICHGEN GEWERCK DER DEPPER’ (I honour this / to a highly commendable craft of the Deppers), followed by the names of the donors: ‘M. G. VOGT / OBERM. SANDER / OBERM. MUCHE’. According to Mirow, there are further names on the reverse: M. Francke S., M. Schubert, M. Rohsenbund, M. Fultz S., M. Hanel, M. Lantz, M. Wiederner, M. Laumert, M. Kuptohe (?), M. Francke, M. Zohbel, M. Kaltschmied, M. Lesche, M. Fieltz J.
Provenance
Formerly the Guben City Museum. Parts of the collection were apparently evacuated to Kossar (today: Kosierz) in 1942/43. The part of the collection that remained in Guben is said to have been looted between 1945 and 1948 and has been considered lost ever since.
