Description
Handle made from hematinon (red glass paste) with delicately ornamented gilt fitting; either with gold blade and marked with a crowned "L" and further letters or else with steel blade and marked with a sceptre.
Provenance
According to the 1858 inventory and C. Aldenhoven, the knives once belonged to King Louis XVI of France. He gifted them to one of his pages, who later emigrated to Germany and sold them there; according to the 1858 inventory from the estate of duke Frederick IV of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg
