Description
A FAENZA " SCANNELLATO " TAZZA, by Virgiliotto Calamelli da Faenza, painted a berettino with a seated figure of a young woman holding a lance, the background with typical wave-like hills, the spirally moulded body with trofei and grotesche motifs in light blue on alternate brown and dark blue panels, the underside with fruit and flowers in colours on the radiating spiral moulding, circa 1540
Provenance

Munich, loss 1938;

The collection (approx. 440 works) was confiscated by the SS in Munich in 1938 on the occasion of the ‘Reichskristallnacht’ and auctioned at Sotheby's in London in 1939 (7/8 June and 19/20 July).
